Hastings Book Store

Why arent there many gay themed novels?

I was in Hastings the other day, which is a music and bookstore, usually they have great selections of books. This time though I was looking for a gay genre book and the only ones I could find really were ones that dealt with coming out and learning to be yourself. There were only a couple gay fiction novels, and like five lesbian fiction novels. Ive also noticed that out of all the fiction thats out there, LGBT themed books are a very small chunk.

Just wondering, its a genre Im interested in writing in, and I read in a writers digest that agents love to take on fiction that might be considered taboo or against the norm. Like everyones seeking something different now a days. Maybe it was just the store I was in, dont know.

In the U.S., Barnes & Noble and Borders all have Gay & Lesbian sections. I tend to “accidentally” end up in that section. :)
